Hello all,

I hope everyone is well?

So, with great thanks to this forum I have today taken delivery of my Evohome kit:
Evohome Controller
Table Top Stand
2x BDR91's
Hot Water Kit with sensor
8x HR92
8x HR91

My current heating system is made up of:
Vaillant ecoTEC Plus 624 System.
VR81 on the landing UPSTAIRS
VR61 in landing cupboard
VRC 470F DOWNSTAIRS
Albion 210 Hot water store with temperature probe running straight to the boiler. GAS ONLY, the Electric heating element is not connected.
3 Honeywell zone valves all hard wired into my VR61.
230V = Mains in from fused spur feed back out VIA 5 core flex to boiler 2 core (grey and black) feed from BUS
LP/ZP = DHW Cylinder Honeywell Zone Valve
HK1-P = Heating Zone 1 (Down S) Honeywell Zone Valve
HK2-P = Heating Zone 2 (Up S) Honeywell Zone Valve
BUS = VR81, RF Receiver from outdoor weather comp / 470F & two cores to boiler

I will be hooking up all 12 Zones with 2 rooms having two rads and DHW, currently no UFH is needed.

So i am now stuck at the first hurdle, where do i even start... I thought it was going to be pretty straight forward by all accounts. My Brother is Gas safe reg and will check my boiler once i have completed and all wiring is in place (however i am an ex spark)

I am fully aware that OpenTherm is not an option and i dont want to get the VR33 to make it so.

This was my understanding:
1) remove eBus cables and connect to BDR91
2) DHW 2port valve to be removed from VR62 and connected to BDR91
3) Manually override / lock open Up and Down 2 port valves
4) Setup and live happily ever after.

But i have much more going on here and im lost.

Can anyone please help me out? - before anyone suggests i get in a "Professional" to do this work, i have tried, 3 heating engineers, 1 didnt even know what modulation was and the other 2 had less of a clue on Evohome than me.

Many thanks to all.

I could summaries with,
has anyone fitted Evohome to an Ecotec 6 series boiler with DHW and two heating circuits and is willing to share your wiring ?

thanks bud, not really, i got that already and its very generic. i was wanting to use eBus rather than on.off

You can't use eBus, has to be on/off if you don't want to get the VR33

that is odd, i was told by Honeywell support that i could use eBus.

Dont fancy the VR33 for OT bridge.

i worry that on/off might see a lot of over/under shoot?? or will i not get much of that with the use of the TRV heads on all rads

Shouldn't be much overshoot with the TRV heads, they're very accurate

Yes to fitting.

A lot of pros in the CC have given up with Evohome...more trouble than it's worth.

thats a bit worrying, i was told it was the best and easiest out of all systems.
It's the best in that it's the only OpenTherm compatible multi-zone system, and I think it remains the only one that reports and can adjust hot water cylinder temperature. There the advantages end. It's certainly not the easiest.

I still fit it where OpenTherm is preferred, but everything must be done absolutely perfectly, and slowly. Receivers 30cm away from each other, and 1m away from any metallic objects/microwaves/digital radios/WiFi routers etc. Bind accessories in the order it says, and wait one minute between each binding. Rush it and you have to start all over again. Think you can do it the way you want to do it, and it'll sh!t itself. If you're unfortunate enough to discover that some of your accessories are out of range of the main controller and that can't be remedied by moving it, you've got to burn another £220 buying a second one, split the system in two and have two different areas on these app.

I've gone over to the new Salus system. It's about half the price, has a greater range of accessories, looks much more modern, and if you find that you're a bit short on signal range you can buy a smart plug for £25, which boosts the range of the entire system, and is a smart plug, so you can switch lamps or whatever on and off remotely. Comes with a 5 year warranty too, much better than Evo's 18 months from date of manufacture, and doesn't need batteries replacing either - the thermostats just need a quick charge with a USB lead every two years

but not to helping...?

you have done all the homework. You being a spark and your brother being a heating engineer, you have all the bases covered. Fail to see why the task is not off the blocks.

Bit of a bell end aint you, lets have it.

The point of me being a spark is to avoid comments of i need a qualified person to wire it up and like wise the point of my brother being gas safe is to avoid comments such like ill need to get my boiler checked once the cover has been lifted.

neither of these professions help someone that has never installed the product.

I have been told conflicting information from Honeywell Technical, one said i can use eBus one said i cant.

Where i am now is this...

BDR91 at boiler, L&N in, L bridge to A, B to RT230, i threw the towl in for the day and got on the beers

Sounds right. You'll need to reinstate the 24v RT link for it to work I think - this would have been removed when the bus controls were fitted
