hi Everyone,
can anyone tell me how to check if a plumber is G3 certified to install unvented hot water systems please?
i know the plumber is gas safe which is separate from G3, i believe. apart from taking the word of the plumber, is there an official way to check?

thank you

It may be on the gas register site under his name but they have to notify them, it’s not automatically put up there. If not, ask him for his registration certificate.

many thanks . yes i checked the gas register but i cant see it there. only says certified for vented systems. seems there is no official way to check this. i will ask plumber then and i guess take their word for it.

Some will show on the gas safe register but it is voluntary not automatically done , if he is registered he will carry an ID card with his pic and valid dates on it just ask him for that

1. Gas safe aren't the only body to which a G3 qualified engineer can belong.
2. As stated above, he / she should have a card with the name of the body to which he she belongs, a photograph and the date of expiry.

You can have an unvented HW cylinder heated by electricety , oil , gas , or solar so why would it be up to Gas safe to regulate, as already said just ask to see his card
