I am going to have both an Electric Hob and Oven (first time) and these will be the Plug in Models. I do not want the Double Electric Socket on show, so the question is, is it acceptable for it to be immediately behind but just above the Oven unit under the worktop and therefore out of sight. Please note that the Base Unit is 580 Deep and will be 'visible' because it will be on the end as opposed to situated between other cupboards. Also, I am finding that the smallest ovens in terms of depth are 54.5 deep.

Cooling is the problem, fuses get hot that's how they work, with an oven normally the oven fan will cool a plug in a socket within the carcase, but not sure on hob, as all hobs I have used need more than 13 amp.

There is no regulation to be in free air, but it clearly makes sense that the plug must have air cooling.

Don't use a double socket for two high power devices. Use two singles.

Thanks for your reply but that now raises the question of why is my washing machine and freezer ok on a Double especially also considering both the hob and oven can be run on 13amp each? Baffled????

A freezer is not a high power device.

A double socket often has a max rating of 20 amps, not 26 amps. So for two 13 amp loads you should use two single sockets.

Ok. Thank you. As there has never been an Electric Oven installed previously so this is a New installation rather than replacement of Oven and Hob I expect the job to be more complex especially as someone else is saying I need a Double- Pole cooker switch. For crying out loud we've gone from two plugs on one socket, to two plugs in two sockets and now a Switch Dare I ask how and where does the Switch get connected? Ha Ha

No one on this thread has said that. You don't need a cooker switch. They are often fitted but there is no reg saying you need one.

No it wasn't on this site just had a conversation with someone who had system installed from fresh thats all so I don't know why they have a Switch. All I know is that where I want my oven and hob to be the only 'available' electrics nearby is a Double wall socket

Well I thought I would post an update on this subject. The sparks I am using has assured me that using two 13amp plugs in a device designed to accept two 13amp plugs is acceptable and that he has installed Hobs and Ovens this way before with no issues. I shall accept his word and his work, along with his guarantee! Thank you all

Well if you don’t want to accept what I have told you that is up to you. MK double sockets are stated to be rated at 20 amps not 26 amps. Perhaps your spark is inexperienced.
