Could someone please advise on the rough cost of installing 9 radiators, 5 upstairs and 4 downstairs with the downstairs 4 having pipework chased in to the walls?

Main run is 22mm pipe and 15mm to each radiator, the 22mm pipe feeds from an airing cupboard upstairs. The house is a typical three bedroom semi detached, with two large-ish bedrooms and a small back bedroom. I will purchase radiators and the valves, only the other materials and labour would need to be quoted for.

I have received a quote, but it seems extremely high and I would like to know if I am being quoted too high or not. Thanks.

Without seeing your house and what is actually involved it would be very hard to give a quote or even a rough quote.

Your best bet is to get some other plumbers round to quote from seeing and deciding from that.

Thanks. Yes, that would be the most accurate way of gauging the cost, but I don't have time to wait for them to come round and then issue the quotes etc due to the urgency of the project. Could you perhaps tell me what kind of day rate I could expect for this type of job then?

You want good tradesmen and a good job, so it's going to cost more it's as simple as that. Seems like you want the job to be as cheap as possible ....quality work costs.

Pay cheap and you may well regret it, are your floors on the ground floor solid or timber ?

Post the quote you've been given. Day rate !! You'll be lucky ! And you don't want someone that can turn up straightaway good tradesmen are not sat waiting for the phone to ring they're busy.

I don't want it to be as cheap as possible. I just don't want to pay way over the going rate for the job. The price is the price, I just don't want to pay 1.5x the price or 2x the price, if you know what I mean.

Agreed. I don't want to "pay cheap", I just want to pay the going rate and not a hugely inflated rate. Ground floors are solid. Pipes will be chased into the walls from upstairs. I will have to fill and plaster.

To clarify, I wouldn't accept a quote from anyone offering a day rate, I was just looking for an idea of cost. I don't want someone that can turn up straight away, I just want to save some time by having a ballpack idea of the cost so I know if I am being ripped off or not.

I was quoted £2650.
Does not include radiators or valves.
Just new install of the 9 radiators & removal of old pipework.

So basically labour only? That's a rip off.

Well, almost labour only. They will have to supply the copper pipe. This is why I am questioning it. Even if they had quoted on £250/day, is it really 10 days work for an experienced plumber?

What would you charge / expect for that kind of job?

well surely it depends on whats involved in the job.

ripping floors up and re-piping, notching joists, putting floors back, and making a decent job of it etc (to many just rip floors up and take no care putting them back creating creaky noisy flooring),

no one can really say if its a good price or not

we had a system installed in the 80's - had warm air before , so they just took out the heater , had the gas boiler in the loft , new cylinder etc etc. Took a couple of weeks Mon-Fri, but the guy was on his own.
large 2 story 4 bed / 3 recep house.
BUT that was all done in copper and soldered - Not this Quick plastic stuff

I could take the floors up myself and put them back in less than two hours, so I imagine an experienced plumber could do it in less time.

yes and they will, but how well they do it is another matter. there is an awful lot that just tear it apart with no thought, hence why they are speedy.

we cant answer the op's question as we dont know the layout of the house, the piping obstacles, is the pipes being chased into the walls etc, re-piping can be time consuming, even for those with vast experience.

Could it potentially take two weeks just for piping in 9 rads?

It could take longer if they take their time. But you shouldn't have to pay for that, the price you received is way over for a three bed semi. I'd expect to fit a new system in 3 days and that is where there was none before.

Thanks, and rough cost for the three day install?
