**SUBJECT SHOULD HAVE BEEN CLEARER - TRYING TO REMOVE 1 GANG 2 WAY SO LIGHT ONLY CONTROLLED BY DOUBLE POLE SWITCH**

Hello,

I have a Double Pole switch at DOOR 1 controlling two bars of GU10 LED Spots (4 on each bar). One bar is on an independent circuit which is working fine, but the other is also connected to a 1 GANG 2 WAY SWITCH at DOOR 2 which I want to remove. I took the wires off it, but the lamp connected to it using the Double Pole switch will then not light.

Here’s a wiring overview accounting for the lamp I am trying to resolve the issue with only.

DOOR 1 (DOUBLE POLE SWITCH)

N1: Red
N2: Blue

DOOR 2 (SWITCH TO BE REMOVED)

B: Yellow (separate cable)
B1: Yellow (same cable
as
B2)
B2: Blue (same cable as B1)

I’ll post a diagram as asked in due course. Thanks in advance.

You need to disconnect the "strapper" switch (three core and earth) which runs between each switch and controls the two way switching That will leave the two lamps connected leaving the wiring of the live and switched live to be wired up from the existing cables.

This explains the principles behind two way switching.

Two way switched lighting circuits #1 (flameport.com)

If your wiring is different (and it can be) or if you're uncertain about what to do, it pays to get an electrician in.

Hello,

I am renovating a room.

Previously, there were two domed lights with three bulbs. These could be controlled independently via two switches (on the same socket) as you enter the room (DOOR 1). These domed lights have been converted to bar GU10 LED Spots (4 on each bar).

At the other door (DOOR 2) only one of the lamps can be switched off and on by another socket with two switches on. The other switch controls an outside light. The aim is to make the switch controlling the lamp redundant and convert this to a single switch controlling only the outside light.

I’ve bought a Crabtree 10A Double Pole light switch. I’ve moved the independently controlled lamp to it with no issues. I’ve moved the lamp which can be controlled by the switch on either socket over, but need to work out what to do with the wiring on the switch I intend to remove.

B: Yellow (red of this cable feeds A of switch controlling outside light, for reference)
B1: Yellow (same cable as B2)
B2: Blue (same cable as B1)

The outcome I’m hoping to achieve is having DOOR 1 as a single switch controlling both lamps and then converting DOOR 2 to a single socket controlling only the outside light. The conversion of the outside light is an easy but it’s just the lamps I’m loping for help with. Thanks in advance.
I'm sure you know exactly what you've written but I'll be honest it makes little sense to me.
Photos of the wiring of both switches please. I know you have already made changes but it's a starting point for us.

I think you are saying you had a 2 GANG SWITCH at both doors and you now wish to have a SINGLE GANG SWITCH at both doors, one controlling both lights and the other controlling the outside light.

Thanks for the replies so far. I’ve edited my original post to hopefully make it clearer and will draw a diagram as soon as I can.

I think the confusing maybe the DOUBLE POLE switch your reffering to.
Do you mean a 2 gang switch

Also the N and B1 etc where are them markings

I'm assuming the 2gang switch is marked A, A1, A2, B, B1, B2 and the 2 pole is marked L1, N1, L2, N2

That would never have worked as 2 way properly as once the DP switch is off, the 2nd Door switch would be defunct,
I quess it was used to just turn off the second light whilst the DP switch was on
