Timber plate or engineering bricks to support joists

Is it best to support floor joists on a timber wall plate on top of a concrete block leaf or use engineering bricks?
 
None, just lay them on the blockwork.

You don't have wall plates for floor joists - there is another storey to go on an you don't build masonry walls off timber!

And you don't change materials (ie bricks) due to differing thermal properties
