I have a Peugeot Partner Teepee car. It's a 60 reg so approaching 11 years old. Had no real problems with it in the 5 1/2 years I've had it and it has 97,500 on the clock. Regularly serviced and always gets through it's MOT.
Tonight I went to pick up a Chines takeaway and left my wife in the car while I went in to collect the food. The keys were on my wifes lap so nothing was switched on. When I returned I opened the drivers door and suddenly the wipers started working and the heater fan started blowing. As I sat down I checked the wiper switch and it was in the off position. Waited for the wipers to stop, as I thought maybe I had knocked the arm, but they didn't. Very strange. Put the key in the ignition and the dashboard lit up as usual but also the STOP sign came up. I tried to start the engine but absolutely nothing happened. The heater continued to blow and the wipers kept sweeping. Switched off and removed the keys and they continued. Popped the bonnet and started pulling fuses out, all to no avail. Gets back in the car to find my wife speaking to our local garage who confessed they had no idea what the cause may be as they had never come across this. Suddenly, whilst the keys were still in my hand, everything stopped. Put the keys in the ignition, switched on, waited for the 2 little dots to go out and fired the engine. It started no problem and all the fascia lights went out as normal. Drove home, (about 10 miles), and it was as if nothing had happened.
Anyone got any explanations for what may have caused it?
My wife has suggested calling the car Christine. LOL

I picked up a Chinese takeaway once and put it on the passenger seat. As I was driving along, I heard the paper bag rustle and start moving. I then saw a pair of eyes just looking at me! I stopped and opened the bag up and then I realised I’d ordered the Peeking duck.

Have a look at 'Body Control Modules' conny, on websites such as BBA-Reman or ecutesting......this one may be coming back!
Look under the carpets for water on the passenger side front

Non the wiser John. I know you are suggesting it may be the ECU but the BBA-Reman one is just way over my head.
Last time I worked on a car engine was to set the points on my fiesta many moons ago. Once they started putting electronic bits in I stayed well out of it.

Somewhere in the care, you will have what is called a 'body control unit' a ECU/computer thingummy, which control all the electrical systems on the bodywork. If moisture /water gets into these units, it can cause absolute havoc - as you are finding.

The logical answer to your problem conny is that 'an ignition operated accessory relay' has stuck on.....probably right enough. These body control modules govern everything electrical on the car apart from the engine, so their job is vast and indeed they do have solid state relays within their construction.
The likes of BBA-Reman can remanufacture your unit but of course it's best to determine which one is at fault. If the fault comes back, I'd visit an auto electrician who probably has seen the fault before.

Worth joining a model specific forum for things like this. I had an Astra that would regularly but randomly fail to start. The previous owner (my dad) had the fault diagnosed as a faulty accelerator pedal sensor and this had been replaced and seem to solve the problem for a while. I found out from a forum that there was some sort of big electrical connector board under the fuse board and was advised to spray it with contact cleaner - I did this and the fault never reoccurred in the following 3 years of ownership.

In the engine bay near the battery towards the scuttle, have you got some big multiway connectors, give these a check as corrosion may have started to moisture getting in.

Used to be quite a common fault on older Peugeot’s, was always the body control module or convenience module as I’ve heard it called.
