Hey, Anti-vaxxers. Be careful!

But you can still catch it if you've been vaccinated.
Yep, but you're incredibly unlikely to be hospitalised and less likely to die. Around 2% of people hospitalised have been fully vaccinated. If they were no use at all then you'd expect that to be closer to 95%.

I don't think the vaccine is giving any where near the protection I had hoped for, yes it is helping a little, but it is a very very long way from being a guarantee.

42 people have died in the UK of the India variant
Unvaccinated 23 (55%)
Vaccinated 19 (45%) and 12 of those had both jabs.

383 people hospitalised with the India variant
Unvaccinated 251 (65%)
Vaccinated 128 (33%) and 42 of those had both jabs.

typo - fixed now
I guess for 4 they don't know?

Still a 50% less chance of being hospitalised. And 50% less chance of dying.

That's a win in my book.

Do we know the age groups at all?

Was it the virus that killed the jabbed people, or did they die within 30 days of covid but actually died of something else?

Suppose at the end of the day we are going to have to accept it's here to stay, and anything that reduces the chances of hospitalisation or death even by a few percent is likely worthwhile.

They may even be able to tweak the vaccines for this Indian variant for those at higher risk first.

55% of people are double vaccinated
12% of those dying are people from that group.

so that suggests you are 3x as likely to die without a jab - yes that is good and I am still glad I have had both jabs, but it is giving no where near the protection that I had hoped for.

so that suggests you are twice as likely to die without a jab - yes that is good and I am still glad I have had both jabs, but it is giving no where near the protection that I had hoped for.

Maybe but remember when the vaccine was trialled the Indian variant didn't exist.

I'm sure a tweak will be along shortly.

It does seem that this virus is rather similar to flu in the fact it may require continuous vaccine amendments for the foreseeable future.

Unfortunately unlike the flu, there doesn't appear to be a particular season where it's rampant, it seems all year round

Super spreader event in the football just starting - only allowed to meet 5 friends for a walk along the beach, but perfectly OK to allow 3,000 fans into a "FanZone" and fill them full of alcohol.

There is not enough data to make such predictions.

Think about it.

23 people unvaccniated

12 had both jabs

7 had a single jab.

So that would suggest you are least likley to die if you had 1 jab. As we don't know anything about where the sample population it's dangerous to make such predictions.

All we can say is that the vaccine breaks the link somewhat between infections and hospitalisations.
