Boris pulls it off again

Bojo does like a vanity project though in order to provide him with some form of legacy for the future

Every Prime Minister wants to leave some form of 'legacy', something to be remembered by. In my honest opinion I think the last PM to achieve that was Harold Wilson who founded the Open University, a fantastic legacy. Well, that and shagging his secretary for all those years and getting away with it.
respect to the bloke though, decent PM, as was Callaghan, sometimes though, you get the right person at the wrong time, The trade unions destroyed Callaghan, which of course allowed Maggie (peace be upon her) to take over. It's a funny old world.

Yeah suppose, seems to have skipped a couple of times though,

Blair gave us the Iraq war, brown gave nothing, cameron gave us brexit, may gave us diddly, (edit: she at the last minute gave us a co2 deadline that seem unrealistic, or will cost the economy dearly), bojo, HS2 ...

which of course allowed Maggie (peace be upon her) to take over. It's a funny old world.

Yes the single market, but not of the EU and the Maastricht Treaty, of which she was vehmantly against and I believe the reason major managed to push her out the way..

She was a huge fan, initially.
My favourite quote by the great lady is:

“most of the problems the world has faced have come, in one fashion or other, from mainland Europe, and the solutions from outside it”.

How true.

The British had the decency to go to the other side of the globe to invade and exploit, unlike the Germans who have tried build their empire in Europe.

I don't see that.

Germany have been very successful, they have built a powerhouse of an economy, have excelled in manufacturing and have very stable public services.

Whereas UK has spent the last 40 years down a neo liberal path which flogs everything for a quick buck: North Sea oil, council houses, railways, utilities, public services, NHS services etc etc etc.

How stupid we have to use EDF to build a nuclear power station with Chinese finance.

Survival of the 2007-08 crash.

Fair point, though I'm sure him and Blair saw it coming before Blair suddenly upped sticks.

I read an interesting article earlier where the Germans said they were concentrating on their own troubles, the Americans were running around in blind panic, the French were trying to be sneaky.. Gordon and Alastair darling swooped in and saved the world..again..

Yes agree with all of that, there is some businesses that should be government owned, but run in an efficient and profitable way, they should have been able to create money for the government if they were run correctly.

Although the Thatcher started it, subsequent governments continued it.

Shame really we could have been a power house similar to Germany if only we went down the efficiency route rather than the sell every off route.

I think there was a few instances where assets were sold less than it's worth..

If only we could turn back time eh..

You have to remember that Germany was given a huge leg up after WW2 with the Marshall plan, their industrial base had been destroyed, so they were starting from scratch with new factories and new ideas.
