Accepted way to joint

Hi

is there an acceptable and safe way to joint either 2x twin and earth cables it a twin and earth cable to a flex all would be inside plastic 50x50 trunking..

Anything really -

from the old style connector blocks to the modern connectors like Wago (lever operated for stranded flex).

If you use connector blocks, or any screwed connection, it must be easily accessible for inspection and maintenance though.
Other alternatives include crimped and sleeved or soldered and sleeved which don't need to be accessible.

You should not crimp solid conductors with the rubbish crimps and crimpers on general sale.

They are not much better for stranded, either.

Both.

Squash flat ones and their associated crimps are, as I said, rubbish.

arent Wago's considered permanent as they are spring loaded?

It's bad practice to 'hide' cable joints within trunking, especially if the cable style or type changes via the joint.

From what I've read on here they are classed as "maintenance free" and can be used in inaccessible places.

I'd be interested to try these on a scrap bit of wire and see if it passes the pull test.

The un-sheathed earth wouldn't have the benefit of the glued shrink plastic though as I doubt it would shrink down far enough.

The cable/wire is clamped in the copper tube inside the plastic though Keith so it should still stand the pull test. The plastic surround is insulation for any stray whiskers are bare wire showing. They have no bearing on the mechanical strength of the joint.

Expensive ones usually, I served my time under MOD rules & crimpers were regularly calibrated

Yes, ones where the crimp/ferrule actually fits the cable and the crimpers compress squarely (is that the right word?) or hexagonally.

They are more for terminals than joining wires.

Joints within trunking still require strain relief, using Wago connectors or terminal blocks just loose in the trunking is not acceptable.
