COVID, strikes, and the lack of HGV tests
As ever Facts4EU.Org started by looking at the raw data available from official Government sources and we begin with this. We reviewed the detailed data from the Dept of Transport’s ‘Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency’ (DVSA), who are responsible for certificating drivers of what used to be called HGVs.

Specifically we analysed the number of LGV tests (‘Large Goods Vehicle’ is the new definition for HGV and buses) and, critically, at the number of CPC tests. Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) test passes are required in addition to Large Good Vehicle (LGV) tests in order to drive professionally, i.e. as the main purpose of one's job.

Well bless my soul.

"Section 88 of The Road Traffic
Act 1988 may allow you to
continue driving even though
you do not hold a current
driving licence.

In practice, this will be when you
have applied to the DVLA to renew
your licence, but the licence expires
(runs out) while we are processing
the application."

Yeah given the back log they will all lose the licence by the time DVLA pull there finger out

not fit for purpose

I repeat, this does not apply to anyone who has not previously held an HGV licence, read your own link.

Shambolic government.

"Home secretary Priti Patel was previously the strongest opponent of giving temporary visas to foreign HGV drivers, arguing it would lead to a stampede of different industries demanding similar preferential treatment. She has since sided with transport secretary Grant Shapps to support the plan.

One person close to the situation said the prime minister was “completely fed up with bad headlines on this and wants it sorted and doesn’t care about visa limits any more”.
