Moving a steel lintel up one course of bricks?

Hello.
I was researching and came across this forum so thought it would be a good idea to ask some knowledgeable folk before I start!?

I have a single (new build house) car barn with pitched roof. It has a normal single door sized gate into the garage from the garden.

The gate opening is larger than a normal back door size. 2014x1050mm.

I sourced a UPVC door which is 1000mm wide so I grabbed it quick thinking it would be ideal not realising the height was slightly to tall for the opening.

my options-
1/Trim some off the UPVC frame top and bottom. I’ve read I can trim about 10-15mm off top and bottom which I don’t think will be enough.

2/remove the steel lintel and one course of bricks and replace the lintel?

so this is what I wanted to ask about really.
I am fairly competent DIYer, is this something I could have a go at?

Thanks, any advice most welcome

How much have you got to remove off the height?

Moving the lintel, will be a big job for what it is. I’ve got a door with low threshold at the bottom, where the frame is replaced by aluminium track. Saving practically the thickness of your UPVC frame depth.

This might make the door nearer in size To your aperture, but it’s might sit to low for your ground level.

If dead set on a bodge, the easiest and best for the building would be to sink the threshold

Not being rude, but that's a nasty old fashioned door! Get back on eBay and find something a bit nicer that won't confuse the postman. I've bought half a dozen over the years and never paid over £100.

Not being rude, do you live in a mansion or are you buying low quality doors that don't last as long as they should? :cautious:
