Fitting Hot Tank Thermostat

We all know that the recommended temperature for DHW storage is 60c, but setting a stat 2/3rds down the cylinder will always produce much higher temperatures at the cylinder take off for the reasons stated earlier in the post. cylinder thermostats with a bi-metallic strip are never going to be precision instruments. Experiment with lower settings on your stat.

The bacteria multiply where temperatures are between 20-45°C and nutrients are available.

Above 45C they will be killed, but the hotter it is, the faster they die.

It's dirty tanks full of warm stagnant water that are most dangerous breeding grounds.

Your hot water cylinder is full of clean water and inhospitable, don't make it hot enough to scald you.

Thanks. I can see that, but I would not expect a stat sold for this purpose would have such a massive differntial nor for so many to display a fault.

Most mechanical cylinder stats seem to have an hysteresis of around 5C. They have to have that hysteresis.

Fully accept that, but in this case a minute change in the the dial setting results in a scalding or totally lukewarm tap output change, so the sensitivity range would have to be vast. (The stat marked temp is not what I am working on.).
If I set the stat at about 55c the water remains cool but increasing it to 55-56(say) produces scalding.

Fit 2 stats to the tank with a two way switch to select the stat you want to use.
One fitted a third of the way down and one two thirds of the way down.
Half tank/ full tank.

Thanks, but that is not directly relevant to my problem and was never needed in the past.

PS jeff's signature has nothing to do with this Tony !

Fit a Drayton RF stat. The sensor attaches to the cylinder with a heat sink paste and very accurate.
