I find with some cheap radiator brands from screwfix and toolstation and the like , the tails need massive amounts of PTFE, the thread tappings just seem to be slightly larger, I think the liquid stuff alone would struggleWe use loctite 55 but we still do a fair bit of screwed steel work where if you use ptfe you can't back it.
Also never seen a rad tail leak using 55 can't say that about ptfe.

hemp and boss white ?Do you ever mix tape/thread with jointing compound? Whatever they have used on the shower valves look like a mixture of thread like material and liquid/putty.
