A former defence chief nailed it when being questioned about the French helping the Argie's during the Falkland war.

Former defence secretary John Nott wrote in his memoirs that France was Britain's "greatest ally" during the conflict, but slammed the nation after being presented with new evidence.

"We asked (former French president Francois) Mitterrand not to give assistance to the Argentinians," Nott told the BBC investigation, which was broadcast on Radio 4.

"If you're asking me: 'Are the French duplicitous people?' the answer is: 'Of course they are, and they always have been'," he added.

The world doesn't change much from one day to another for those living up in sleepy hollow on public money, but in the busy parts of the country, where the work is done and the money earned, things are quieter than they were pre-scamdemic. There are shortages of many things worldwide, from semiconductors to cardboard and from peanuts to petrol. All caused by governments simultaneously curtailing industrial activity in March 2020. Production cannot be instantly switched back on at the same level.

If this was all caused by some people in Britain voting to leave the Europe Union in 2016 why is it happening only now, and why is it worldwide?

Could all this be hurting the small businesses in France that survive on British tourism?

We were going to France during summer holidays but have now decided to visit Suffolk again. I'd rather go France but there seems to be a few faces without noses at the moment.

Let’s not forget that for the last couple of years, very few people have been able to go abroad for their holidays. This is the largest amount of people going to France in one time that the UK has ever seen (apart from the D day landings when we were waved through with no checks and no bother!) so the scoundrels have seen an opportunity to chuck a sickie.

In a week or two or three, presumably all those British holidaymakers will be returning home to the UK by the same means. Lets see if there are similar queues in Calais when the UK border agency has to carry out similar checks.

If I remember right then Calais is a larger port, with more room to handle queues without gridlock. The number of hours delay would be the interesting number.
