Hive receiver keeps going offline, no lights

Another forum has suggested it might be wifi interference, and Hive suggested I had the hub near a mirror ‍

Nope with wi-fi interference you would still have the power light illumonated on the receiver , if that light and the boiler display are going out the supply is being interrupted

You make a good point Ian, but I think they just go through the standard procedures when someone rings up, they never listen to what is being said

They just follow a flow chart, they take for granted it is wired correctly, I think your permanent live is wired to some kind of switched live, hence works sometimes and not others, certainly never came across this fault with a correctly wired hive

The key part of the information here is the light going off on the receiver. The receiver is the box near the boiler that is wired to it and also wired to the boiler's power. If the top right light on that box is definitely going out then the power is being cut to it and that will stop the boiler being controlled by the thermostat or hub.

If the HIVE system is just going offline on your phone etc, then the hub - being the box that is plugged into the WIFI internet router - is becoming disconnected from the internet. If it's the thermotat, the blackish box with the dial and CH readout, or the receiver is disconnecting from the hub/receiver then it's an internal WIFI issue.

I get it back on again by either turning boiler switch off and on again ( this works some of the time), or taking battery out of thermostat and re starting it, or occasionally I have to reset the hub too.

I missed this. Surely this suggests it's not a switched live?

Sorry Madrab, I don't know what that means? It uses the same switch as the boiler, so if I turn the switch off, the boiler goes off too. When it's switched on then the receiver and boiler is on, does that make sense? But the receiver keeps going off, but the boiler is still on. It has previously been working fine for the last 4 years, so I can't believe it is a wiring problem (because it wouldn't have worked previously).

It's gone off 4 times since 6am this morning, I turn the switch off, then on again, and it comes to life (for a short time). Whatever the problem is, it's getting worse.

If it's wired into the switch that powers the boiler then that's the Fused Connection Unit (FCU), it powers both the boiler and powers the receiver too, that's normal.

The reason why I suggest it's a wiring issue or a bad connection is exactly because it has been working fine for 4 years and now isn't. Cabling and connections can go bad/intermittent after time. The chances of it being another faulty receiver unit are slim to none as those HIVE units are really reliable but of course it could be, hence the reason to test it.
That would be by disconnecting the power supply it uses just now (from the FCU) and wire it directly into a socket using a piece of cable and plug that is known to be good. That will definitively identify if it is the unit or if it's the power supply cabling. If it keeps working and doesn't go off then we know the issue is with the cable, if it does then we know it's the receiver and you need to try another one.

Yes it’s an FCU. We’re on receiver number 3, so it can’t be a faulty receiver.

I just want to be able to go through everything with the engineer when he comes on Tuesday, knowledge is power, so knowing as much as possible will help me make sure they check everything this time.

Is there an ancient old thermostat on a wall somewhere, left over from before the Hive was installed?
Not impossible that some buffoon has wired it to that, and when the old thermostat goes off, it disconnects power to the Hive.

No flameport, it was newly installed 4 years ago, boiler and hive together, and has been working fine prior to this.

Turning the power off will always turn both your hive and the boiler off, as they share the power supply, doesnt mean the hive is not wired into a switched live connection at the boiler
