Hi, I am trying to replace an analog timer with a Hive, but the timer only has 3 wires. every other discussion I have read mentions 4 wires!

1 (timer) to N (hive)
3 to L
4 to ???

Please help!

Normally the timer is left in place and set to be permanently on 24/7 and the Hive wired to the boilers external terminals provided for a remote thermostat.

I don't think there is a connection for a thermostat!

There will be a connection block within the boiler, that will allow you to connect the thermostat.
Let us know the make and model of the boiler, and we will guide you in the right direction...

A few boiler manufacturers use this same timer.

View attachment 297921 Hive is not 48 - 72 volt AC, so can't see how you can replace with Hive without some relays etc.
That is the supply to the motor for the timer.
Theoretically, terminals 1 and 3 of a single channel Hive could be connected to the Black and Blue wires (Red being safely isolated).
The Live and Neutral to power the Hive could be picked up elsewhere.
No need for any additional relays, but using the intended terminal block would be preferable! :)

The connections for an external thermostat are on terminal block 'ST2' (Where the mains flex connects to the boiler PCB):

Remove the link between Ls and Lr on boiler.

Assuming a single channel Hive:

Ns to N on Hive
Ls to L
Add a link wire between L and 1 on Hive
Lr to 3 on Hive

That was very helpful, thank you!!
What do I do with the timer now? leave it there or disconnect it?

Thanks a million guys! This is my first time really using a forum like this and I'm thrilled by the quality of information and speed of reply!
Hive is wired up and working now! The hub is flashing amber for some reason, but I've tun a few tests and it's working the way it should.
Thank you all so much!

Hi again!
Everything was perfect yesterday, but today I have an airflow fault! (Indicator light flashing fast)
I think its making all the right noises, so I hope that means the fan is OK. Gas cooker is working fine, water in taps is fine, should I get on the roof and check there isn't a bird nesting in the chimney!? Or is there anything else I should check before I call a professional?

Pressure looks a bit low, but I thinks it's always been low...

Fingers crossed its only a coincidence that this is the after installing a thermostat...

Don’t think you need to get on the roof, should be able to see visually if anything blocking the flue. I suspect there‘s an issue with the boiler itself - my advice is get a professional.
