The processes leading up to being cut off are exactly the same for both meters
He should have said both types of meter. The reason for being cut of is payment problems and no solution found. Same for old meters and smart.

Turning gas off on the old meters must have been interesting. Close the inlet valve and remove the handle. Maybe remove some pipe.

One wonders whether they will find it easier to remotely turn off smart meters or parachute in Russian gas engineers to break into houses and turn off the analogue ones?

No doubt nosenothing will claim it's the same process

You are no more likely to be cut off or have your supply cut off with either meter.

Once access was gained…….

Not needed on my old property or on some periods of house building where the meters will be in a cabinet usually inset in the external wall of the house. That change probably came about so that they don't need to gain access.

Most of the meters I see “A lot” are inside.

But I agree some are outside.

So there’s still the issue of access for a lot of dumb meters.

The truth is, engineers don't need to gain access at all, if they wanted to cut off the supply to a property. And even when they do, obtaining warrants seems to be a simple process. Courts readily hand them out. No dramas.

I’ve agreed. I’ve simply stated it’s a lot easier to turn the gas off on a SM than it is with a dumb meter
