Removing immersion heater

Monument do a good heavy duty spanner for the job. Hit is very firmly - a good solid blow - with a club hammer, and you will break the seal. Al the plumber does a good demonstration on his youtube channel.

Immersion heaters, and the spanners to fit them, are a standard size. Are you sure what you have is actually an immersion heater spanner?

Can you show a picture of the spanner, on or nearly on, the 'nut'?
I am not at the flat atm so can’t get a photo. The spanner’s that I’ve tried are definitely meant for immersion heater. The ones from screw fix etc. They aren’t a lot too small, may be just a couple of mm but enough so they won’t go onto the nut at all. They fit the replacement immersion element just fine.

It’s just getting any of the spanners to fit onto the nut. Wires disconnected the spanners don’t fit. Too small by a couple of mm.

Well I must have removed and refitted quite a lot of immersion heaters during my time.

But I have never encountered any spanner which did not fit.

The cast iron spanners are far better than those pressed out of sheet steel.

I've had a manufactured, open-ended one in my workshop, for decades. It's galvanised, and made from 3/8 inch thick steel.

Maybe hire a big Stillson, the handle length alone will give great leverage
