During his last term, Trump begged Merkel to do a deal with the US regards a bi-lateral trade with Germany. I think she had to explain as many as five times (Germany are part of the EU) , before the Orange idiot got the message. She'd have been better off just being honest and telling him to píss off.

Friedrich Merz has said their will be no return to Russian gas 'for the time being', so not totally ruled out. His top priority is to get German industry moving again, for that it needs cheap gas.
EU officials are already talking about importing Russian gas potentially being part of the peace agreement if one is reached.
