The separation of powers in the USA is often much vaguer than here, even though they have a written constitution. Trump can only do this when there is a national emergency. So, he has signed an executive order claiming that there is a national emergency with fentanyl being trafficked from Canada. Even though there is no such emergency. But it means that he now has the power to mess about with tariffs on Canada.

I understood the point you were making and I don't disagree. More countries being armed to higher levels can only make mistakes more likely.
He makes up policy on the hoof and to hell with the consequences. He didn't consider the effect on world markets and has had to pull back on tariffs, yet again. Are the Senate and HoR now totally sidelined? He just seems to be making decisions on everything by himself.

He's had to reconsider as rules governing UMSCA applies.

Yes but look at it realistically, Ukraine could never win against Russia and so Russia has never been fighting Ukraine. They have been fighting against the U.S and European supplied weapons. Now the U.S has stopped this "aid" it is inevitable that Ukraine will have no choice but to surrender the parts that they have already lost and do a deal to keep Ukraine losing any more of its country. Stops the war and prevents any more unnecessary deaths. We have just prolonged this war by supplying Ukraine and done them very few favours. The winner was always going to be Russia.

I disagree. The Russian army have been shown to be more inept than anyone would have believed. Better, earlier support and Poo Tin wouldn't have advanced very far at all.
