Wow. They had no other building in Brazil to refurbish or expand? No other piece of land they could have built on?

I suspect a few things here, one that they wanted to hide the dire living conditions many Brazilians live in from the international climate activists, so plan to divert them off to a pristine part of the country instead.

Two, used the COP as an excuse to build upon the Amazon Rainforest to open it up for further development down the line.

Three, Brazil is now under a far left government, so that's socialism for you.

Four, just don't give a flying f about the climate.
