But as denso pointed out the tariff is on the businesses not the country or the eu. So it is entirely possible that the UK would have been excluded even if we were still in the eu.Because if we were still in the EU it would have been 20%.

Tarrifs are applied in addition to VAT.We have always charged a Tariff, VAT as its otherwise known @20% which is payable on import. Vast swaths of imports do no attract other tariffs.

Doesn't work like that in reality though, does it. The importer pays, but if the price goes up so much the importer doesn't want to pay the increased effective price, the supplier has to cut their price to offset the tariff increase. The point is we don't pay any tariffs, never have. It's the American importers who pay.

I was refuting a claim that we pay out more when tariffs go up. We don't.Doesn't work like that in reality though, does it.

we should definitely increase tariffs on live pigeons
it will be interesting to see how this plays out as Trumps tariff argument that is based on trade deficit is straight from Project 2025Its just to get everyone rushing to do a deal, that they don't want to do, to come of his naughty list. Its his only negotiating style - show you what bad looks like, so you are happy with less good.

It's a very odd list. I wondered if it was everything we don't import.we should definitely increase tariffs on live pigeons
Its just another day in import/export paperwork hell. Some French run / affiliated island is now the highest tariffed place in the world
