GPs to get £20 bonus for keeping patients out of hospital

My thoughts: you should read the article, which does not say what you claim.

Nowhere in the article does it say Drs would get £20 for keeping patients out of hospital.

What it actually says is this:

“The initiative, known as advice and guidance, allows GPs to seek advice from specialists on the phone or online before making a referral, to ensure care is given in the most appropriate setting.”

Other than the headline you mean?

“GPs to get £20 bonus for keeping patients out of hospital in bid to slash NHS waiting lists“

It seems a bit open to abuse. An incentive to consult.

From this month, GP practices can now claim for every request raised through advice and guidance.

The expansion will also aim to standardise its use across the country.

It follows an announcement in January that GPs would be offered £20 every time they consult a specialist using the scheme.

Going to make GP`S a fortune with well over a million A&G a year used at present

GP’s used to get a kick back from pharma companies for recommending specific drugs or vaccinations, so they’ll be keen on this kind of earner. It must be better in most cases for the patient to be referred and discuss direct with consultant. Maybe the £20 should go to the patient, it’s their health.

headlines are just clickbait

invariably they do not match the article at all..............as is true in this case

Drs arent like Tory MPs

in your opinion

in your opinion: "Trump is a man of the people" ..................which shows your opinion is worth diddly squit

Going to make GP`S a fortune
how is it going to do that?

the £20 goes to the practice not the GP

using the Advice and Guidance system rather than a referral increases the workload for the GP and the practice.

"GP practices are able to claim £20 for each 'episode of care', which could include several interactions with specialists."

I dont know whether this will help or not.

I worry that it will move workload from secondary car back to primary care

moving workload around the system is not necessarily a good solution.

I personally think the NHS like many huge businesses suffers from protectionism.
one department doesnt seem to be able to share information with another

my wife got referred from Endocrinology dept to nuclear medicine dept for tests. The nuclear department did a blood test, from the results he levels were shown to be out, so they said we need to refer that back to the endocrinology.

So endocrinology dept wouldnt make decision based on the test results so requested their own blood tests...but to get tablets my wife needed she had to go to the Gp....who wouldnt prescribe meds based on the test results.............so requested another set of blood tests

My wife thus had to have 3 blood tests...........for the same thing, just because NHS clinicians wouldnt accept another depts test results.

Do other people have this experience?
