GPs to get £20 bonus for keeping patients out of hospital

Some years ago, walking too far, I developed a massive, and painful blister on my heel. Two days later, I was concerned it looked infected, so I tried to get an appointment at my local surgery, the best they could offer was two weeks hence, not a bit of good, so I had to make my way to A&E for it to be attended to. These are the things a local surgery out to be able to tackle, just as they used to be able to do.
My wife has been able to get a number of same day appointments, the way she does it is going into the practice before 8.00am and book an appointment with the receptionist.

A real problem for GP surgeries and A&E is the massive waiting lists

When you have 8 million people waiting, those people get ill because they can’t get their problem seen to……and they end up having urgent episodes that require treatment.

I’ve been in A&E waiting rooms 4 times in the last year and on 3 of those occasions somebody waiting was in suffering from gallstones.

My wife ended up visiting twice due to irregular heart beats causing low blood pressure because she was waiting to see a cardiologist.

WRONG
You clearly know nothing about primary care.

Silly gas112 doesn’t know there’s a shortage of GPs,
Silly gas112 doesn’t know that 10 min appointment times can lead to incomplete diagnosis

Unintelligent people always think other people have an easy job
so why does a shortage of gps stop the actual ones doing there jobs correctly
is there a directive from government to do only ten minute 1 illness appointments ....Nope its down to the GP .

What possible reason could a GP practice that's so understandable staffed it can't offer an appointment within four weeks have for cutting down appointment lengths? It's a complete mystery to me.

What did A&E do for you?

30 minute wait, in, checked, bandaged up, back out - except it involved a 20 mile round trip, rather than the 1 mile to the local surgery that it could have been, and a much greater waste of resources.

The person who dealt with me at the hospital, asked why I had not had my local surgery deal with it - I answered that I had tried to get an appointment, but couldn't get one earlier than two weeks hence, which was pointless for such an urgent injury. Her reply - 'typical, useless GP surgery'.

It's so long since I have needed any medical help that I have forgotten how it should work. Would this be something that the practice nurse would have dealt with in the past.

Gas112 is utterly wrong

You’ve been complaining that GPs aren’t doing their job properly, implying they are lazy.

But you fail to acknowledge:
1) there’s a big shortage of Gps
2) massive NHS waiting lists mean people aren’t getting treatment so they up getting more I’ll and putting more pressure on Gp surgeried.

But silly old gas112 can’t and won’t see the wider picture…..he just wants to moan about Gps

gas112 just wants to believe that Gps can cream in loadsa money by getting £20 for every A&G
gas112 is WRONG

I would expect so, but I do find it difficult to even get a local surgery nurse appointment, when I need bloods doing for hospital.

My wife went to our Gp surgery this morning at 7.45am, she got an appointment for 9.10am today, the Dr has: given her a prescription to last to Tues, booked another Drs appointment to see him on Tues. he has also done urine test and requested blood test for today.

The annoying thing is that there are never any appointments on the online booking system and if you ring up at 8.00am you get in a massive queue.

But if you go to the surgery when it opens you can get a book on the day.

Good grief, do,I really need to explain this?

Please for the love of god think before posting.

Good grief, you really are very silly.

If GPs made 15min appointment times they would see even less patients.

By the way, GPs have been threatening to work to rule because they are saying current working practices is compromising their ability to do their job safely.

You need to have a little grow up

When you say “get in the real world” you mean your uninformed view through the eyes of a narrow minded angry Bogan
