But you fail to acknowledge:
1) there’s a big shortage of Gps
2) massive NHS waiting lists mean people aren’t getting treatment so they up getting more I’ll and putting more pressure on Gp surgeried.

Treating them correctly and dealing with more than 1 issue at a time would stop future visits instead of patients having to make 3 and 4 visits for various ailments also treated properly first time stops people coming back and sayin still not right .

By the way, GPs have been threatening to work to rule because they are saying current working practices is compromising their ability to do their job safely.

They are under extreme pressure to treat more and more patients, because of GP shortages for one. That doesn't lead to a great service, quite the opposite.

Treating them correctly and dealing with more than 1 issue at a time would stop future visits

And lead to even less appointments being available. People are complaining about not getting appointments already, you want to make it even worse.

My wife went to our Gp surgery this morning at 7.45am, she got an appointment for 9.10am today, the Dr has: given her a prescription to last to Tues, booked another Drs appointment to see him on Tues. he has also done urine test and requested blood test for today.

The annoying thing is that there are never any appointments on the online booking system and if you ring up at 8.00am you get in a massive queue.

But if you go to the surgery when it opens you can get a book on the day.

Do you think that having to jump through hoops is an acceptable process to get a timely appointment with a doctor?

My surgery won't even allow patients to book appointment if they walk in at any time of the day.
All patients must complete an online form.

There was a weird period of a few years when GPs weren't allowed to give out appointments in advance. Everybody had to ring up in the morning. I think it happened after Tony Blair was caught out by an audience member on Question Time.

To make an appointment with my doctor, I have to phone up an 0845 number at 8 o clock in the morning and take a chance that there will be the chance to see a doctor sometime that day. I had to make an appointment this morning and spent almost 1/4 hr on the phone (in the queue " Your call is important to us, please wait etc") No doctors available, all the appointments have been filled, but you can see the practice nurse at 11:15 if you want.
When I got there (in agony) I was told to wait in a corridor upstairs and the nurse would see me shortly.
After sitting there for over half an hour, I hobbled back down to reception, to be told, the nurse was running late. I asked if I could make an appointment to see a doctor only to get the "Phone up at 8 in the morning." routine.
I asked what time the doctors got there and was told, "They are here at 8." How on earth do they see anyone at 8 o clock if people have to phone up first?

Bl00dy stupid system.
Then the receptionist told me that they do advance appointments, but these are at least 5 days in advance. Ohhh I now have to plan ahead for illness. Grrrrrrrrr What on earth are doctors surgery's coming to these days? First time I want to see the doc in over 3 yrs and the system is a joke.
What's others experiences like?

I've just phoned my doctors surgery to request an appointment and have been told that the next available appointment is for two weeks today.

Obviously this is not acceptable.

People with ailments shouldn't have to wait for 2 weeks surely.

I rang my GP's surgery this morning to be told the earliest available appointment is 11th May

In mine you can get an appointment on the day but only with their choice of doctor.

Some of them are not very good! One spent about 20 min arguing on the phone that she did not want to give me indomethacin without allopurinol. She gave in eventually.

To get an appointment with my own doctor takes nearly two weeks. He is obviously seen as one of the best there!

Drs appointments have been a source of moaning for well over a decade before COVID on this forum. Have a look at the threads quoted above.

People have bad memories for this sort of thing. If you gave a **** you could look for statistics rather than relying on fallible human memory.

Ah yes, this a good example of the petty minded, parochial attitude commensurate with a certain demographic. A demographic that is the target audience for tabloid newspapers.


I rather doubt Lirefighter has any idea of the length of time it takes to become a GP, the workload, responsibility and stress……it’s a given that Lirefighter is too small minded to inform himself of the facts
