Stair handrail help

Hi there, hoping someone can help me with this. Does anyone have any idea what this is the mdf part (handrail ?) In the photo. The house was extended and I need to find a matching profile to finish the stairs off. In hindsight I should have had this removed and then figured something out, would have been alot simpler!

Any help would be appreciated. Been to the local timber merchant and the chap I spoke to didn't have it.

Not sure what the question is , you state it’s mdf so you answered your own question. Simple 18mm mdf could be used, the rebate is superfluous , given its appearance is the same when applied to top section .

Just looks like a timber or MDF capping, a local timber mill who make stuff to match customers profiles will sort you out if you can't just use a standard chunk of MDF as per foxholes post, though what are those weird cable things?

looks possibly like wood and a few fibres at the bottom and they look like nails to me ??

The cable things are nails that were in the piece next to it. It was damaged quite badly and the builders removed the handrail there. I will visit another timber mill and see if they can match it for me.

I was wondering earlier if it had a specific name...which I don't think it does. Thanks for the replies guys

Looks lie wood to me.

All you need is a bit of 18x150ish board and a couple of strips of approriate moulding strip fixed to the sides to form that shallow "U" section.
