How to fill gap at soffit (Ed.)

So. Newbuild. Timber framed. Woodwork external panels, needing rendering. Plywood soffit boards, mounted at the roof angle, nailed to the rafters. About 32degrees.

But. Due to timings the rendering was done before the soffit were not put on before the render, so we have a gap. See pictures.

So there is a gap to be filled, or, rather, sealed. Timber cut at 32deg and then sealed and nailed, is one guess.

Flexible vinyl tape, with sealant, nailed to the rafters, might work.
But any (cheaper thoughts greatly (desperately) ) received.

My amateur wondering is that it's only a practical problem if there's rain falling upwards, and might it help to ventilate a cold loft?
