I have a pull cord light switch in the garage. It's too far away from the wall. Form time to time, the garage door catches it and creating a struggle in the dark when turning on the light. Is there any issues for me to feed the cord through a ring screw to keep it next to the wall and not catching the door? I am assuming the cord is usually at a certain distance from the wall for a reason. Thanks.

It would be good for a sparky to confirm. There might be some regulations for this kind of switch.

Would a plateswitch be a better alternative?

If you are concerned about the occasional bit of rain reaching it then there are "splashproof" types.

Just be aware that if you pin the cord too far away from the switch the pull action could be more sideways than down so the switch could be hard to activate

The switch came like that with the house. So I will leave as is rather than having to deal with regulation stuff on a new switch. The garage door catching the cord just means I can't find the cord when I need it.

Sorted. The pull cord is about 1 meter in from the door. There is only very minor risk of the water blown in. There is no water risk to the switch itself.
