50 Quid from nationwide

Nope tell Sid was the British Gas privatisation
I know . That was in the reference I gave . It was the time when people were getting chances to make a bit of cash on share issues, moving accounts between building societies, etc. Covered by my words, it was -"and that".

Share investment is a long game, your shares would be worth a lot now.
Not really. x10 in 25 years beats the bldg socs, but some shares I had way back have evaporated. "Virtuality" was one. Virtual reality headsets...
It's not a long game necessarily.
Like the shares in Hesai, to which I brought attention the day before yesterday when I had them at $16, rose through yesterday to $24.
"The index" dropped 10% in the past month. I wouldn't buy the dips just yet, it could go down 30% more.
The 24% drop which started in Dec 21 took 2 years to recover.

The same happens over short and long periods.
Trading / investing - it's only a question of the period.

"Thatcher posed as the prudent housewife careful with her budget, in reality she opened tne doors to the banking crisis 20 years later."
That's flattering to deceive, or something. It was a murrican explosion really. We just caught some shrapnel.

Nationwide giving 12 million custs 50 quid for the take over of virgin money this is separate to any fairer share payment
I’ve just had an email from them saying I’m getting another £100 - I don’t even really use them that much - I only have a packaged account with them for the included travel, breakdown and mobile phone cover and just keep enough in there for that . :giggle:

been with them 40 odd years and missed out on the first payment a few years back because i only had savings account with them despite there being a stupid amount in it. So opened the flex to get the payment and for all the extras etc it works out roughly what my yearly worldwide travel policy would be . So nice free 150 this year .

Tally ho!.

I wonder what the cost-benefit analys is for doing that.

It would encourage me to open a new bldg soc account - somewhere else because that one has shot its load.
Do you have to have one of their superb accounts where, they shaft you somewhere else?

We keep an HSBC account just because of travel insurance. CHeck what each one covers, there are two (at least) tiers of conditions you can be covered for in the "basic". So I am safe in the knowledge that when I go on an expedition, to get the bins to the pavement, I'm covered if I'm abducted.

I do have Lloyds current account, with £100 in and 2x £5 standing orders to the Battersea dogs' home and something else, which I'll be able to transfer to a different bank for 100 or two sometime.

Remember when we all opened bldg soc accounts to get a bonus?

Ive got instant access saver accounts linked to the account, hopefully they qualify

a further look shows you need:

out of jan feb mar you need to have received £500 for 2 of those months and made min 2 payments out of the account for 2 months

and you need £100 min in a savings account

I qualify but my wife doesnt

Your lucky. They're prone to closing accounts used for business.

Are you sure? I have the flex account with less than a hundred quid in it, a credit card card owing nothing on it and two old isa accounts - one with just over £400 in and another with just 8p in it! I literally only pay £15 a month into it by DD to cover the insurance.
