Poorly flushing wc

OK so I have everything fitted but no improvement- if anything its a bit worse.
Think I will have to rip it out and replace with a high level cistern unless
anyone has any other suggestions.

If you are expecting a powerful flush from a non-symphonic close-coupled suite fitted with a syphon flush, then you are on a hiding to nothing. Only a 2" outlet dump-valve type of flush will give anything approaching a powerful flush.

Modern 6 litre cisterns are pretty much incapable of providing the old-fashioned powerful flush provided by older 12 litre cisterns. Most people have to flush multiple times to properly clear solid matter in the pan, thus defeating the aim of mandating 6 litre cisterns, which was to save water.

Its possible you've got a bad casting, especially if it's always been poor at flushing, but the soil pipe doesn't look extra special to me, can you show it a Spirit Level and see what fall there is on it?

Yes I have wondered this. They are ceramic, obviously cast from a mould so all kinds of offers could creep in.

I will try and put level on the soil pipe.
Yes, after another look at that almost horizontal SP, I'll lay good odds that there is barely a turn of the bubble to that soil run as it passes through the wall. Without a minimum 3degree fall or thereabouts, the flush will be creating its own backwash in the pipe before it reaches the stack. Somewhat hard to alter at this stage in the WC's history, but as you are considering renewing the lot, a lowering of the stack entry point for the pan could well be the answer to your poor performance flushing problems.

Hello again, So I have taken a few measurements and they are all very low i.e. between 0.6 and 1.2 degrees.
So i think this is the source of the problem.
Not sure how to resolve this without knocking a hole through the wall and re aligning the soil pipe.

You could release the making good around the SP where it passes through the wall and then carefully cut a piece of 1" thick ply to raise the pan up 1" and that might just be enuf to encourage the flush to get a hurry on. Other than that, as you said in your last line of your above post.

Yes I was considering that approach. Might just get enough of an angle. The edge of the pan is 11" from the wall so a bit of space to work with.

Think you've found the issue. As a rough guess looking at the distance, you ideally need about 10-12mm of fall from back of pan through the wall, to the Stack, (assuming soil goes straight into the stack once outside.) How you get it is up to you, may well be easier to raise the Pan slightly than lower the pipework outside.

Raise the pan; if it solves the problem, you can consider whether to "do it properly" by modifying the hole in the wall. Some users might not like the raised seat.

I think it's a major job to hack out the brickwork to change the angle. Also its two storeys up so not that accessible.
