Hi there

Just had sockets installed before a kitchen. Unfortunately they have not ended up symmetrical.
Pic One is about 500mm from the cupboard end, the other (pic 2 shown near a kettle )is about 19.5.
Pic 3 shows how you cant really see them both at one
Thinking of having one moved to make symetrical as they are going to be sitting in a quartz upstand.
Which one should be moved and , do you think its even worth it if you cant see them at the same time? (Theres a 180cm run in between)
Also, will the fillet of quartz running upside of the 450 one look too skinny? (Mind you its white n a bit of gold)

Thanks

Didn't you tell the electrician where you wanted them?

Surely the other way round - the space in Pic 2 is much more than that in Pic 1, not 1/25 of it.

But anyway, unless you want to start digging out cables and replastering, you can't move either socket very far.
Also, will the fillet of quartz running upside of the 450 one look too skinny?
No, but the one running up past the socket with only a 19.5mm gap, which will probably be about 10mm from the edge of the socket might. How far above the top of the sockets will the top of the upstand be?

Sorry , i will try and clarify. I asked the electrician to be as near as is practical to the sides of each cupboard, which i think he said 450mm.
For some reason when the cabinets were installed, one of them (see pic attached) was much further away from the edge of the tall cabinet . Not sure why..maybe a miscalculation.. The upstand in total will be 50cm high , half quartz, half mirror. The quartz runs up from the worktop .The idea was to house the sockets in the quartz part.

Just wondered if its worth moving this one just to the right a little as it jars with me somehow. Or is it loads of trouble and not worth it?
I had always imagined it in planning close to the cupboard , like the other one is.

Thanks

Could be a right pain in the arse to move it depending on how the cable comes up, might not reach without replacing one part of the ring - if it is a ring.

One of us is losing the plot, and it isn't me.

A is not 450mm, it's 30-35.

Even B, which you say is "much further away" isn't 450mm, it's about 210.

Morqthana. The whole picture is picture B.
I just drew the black line in on a photo using my finger , it was supposed to roughly represent a ‘nearer’ scenario of around 450.
The other one ‘much further away’ is 19.5cm according to real life measurement.
Thankyou, you made me laugh about losing the plot , my plot was lost about a week ago!

Neither socket is anywhere near that distance - one is less than half that, the other is a tiny fraction.

No it wasn't, it was much nearer - at about half the distance.

So you drew a box closer to a cabinet than one at 19.5cm to represent a "nearer" scenario of around 45cm.

I'm out - I have no idea how your universe works.

Height should be ideally 300mm above counter top? They look lower. As suggested , double up and have extra sockets.

I suspected you were doing it in the original post, but please use the same measurement units all the time, especially if you're going to omit mentioning what unit they are..

500mm from the cupboard end, the other (pic 2 shown near a kettle )is about 19.5.

Easier to just use millimetres or inches when talking with trades; centimetres are never used (and if you say to your spark "socket that side at 500, and at this side 49.9, right, I gotta get to work, bye", then you will definitely come home to vastly asymmetrically placed sockets)

To your problem, I fully endorse the suggestion to add more sockets. I have 2 doubles in each of two corners either side the sink and have a todo list item to increase that to 4 doubles in each corner.. or install a larder unit to contain all the small appliances that irk me by littering my worktop.

Who knew I'd "need" a bread maker, air fryer, rotary grill, blender, toaster, microwave, kettle, slow cooker, coffee machine and a hundred bloody phone chargers? :)

Never enough sockets

I like mine to be even higher to be above the appliances and accessible.

Simple answer - add more sockets, to regain perfect symmetry. Two sockets, even if doubles, is nowhere near adequate for a kitchen. You simply can never have too many. Our original install, had around 8, I have since added around 8 more.

Nice. We looked at a built in coffee machine of a style that matches the ovens.. just couldn't justify a thousand quid. Built in appliances nicely solve my "I like worktops with nothing on them" leanings but wow, do they command a premium!?
I do like the idea of a pull out larder with adjustable shelves full of the seldom used or short use appliances (kettle, microwave, bread maker, blender etc) and have them plugged in on a looped lead that can cope with being pulled out, run and slid away again..

Our original install, had around 8, I have since added around 8 more.
16 double sockets? Impressive. You may need to install another ring at this rate
