He says that it costs him as much in electricity as when he had his petrol car.
Problem now is that he can't go too far without planning very expensive or very long pit stops.
Or they care about their engine...

Not quite "double", I think? 23p / mile for me, if exclusively using 80p / kWh chargers, compared to about 13p / mile in my last diesel (at today's prices). However, that's comparing a sub-6 second to 60 EV with almost three-and-a-half hundred horsepower, with a 130 horsepower 1.5 diesel. If we were get closer to a like-for-like comparison, I think the EV charged exclusively from ultra-rapid public chargers would be about 30% more?

I could see how someone who managed to get themselves an EV without first stopping to think whether they could charge at home or not, might struggle with working out where to go to charge it...
I'd best not tell you what the person who chairs the SMMT's "fuels group" puts in their car then...
Call it a fiver for 300 miles if I charge at home, at night.
Ergo, a tenner for 600 miles.
That used to cost c. £70 for my 2 litre diesel.
Charging while out and about, at 80p per kWh - which I've never done - would cost around £50 for a full charge, there or thereabouts?

I'm in Czech Republic at present. Fuel is around the £1/litre mark here. They don't have any of their own oil, unlike UK.
As the Americans say - go figure?
