That hasn't always been the case. There have been long periods where things improved and the country was very optimistic. Since GFC we have been stuck in a rut, and it's really all been about firefighting and choosing the least bad option.

This is because the majority cannot be bothered to take the risk of actually getting up of their collective arses and doing something constructive about their situations. They seem kinda content with a small but regular weekly wage packet rather than take risks and employ others to do the work for them.
