I’m wondering what height do you install the cooker hood from the top of a ceramic electric hob?

The manual says 450mm for an electric hob but I find this far too low. Even 650mm feels low.

What height do you use?

What manual? Manufacturers ?
High as possible especially if you are tall and likely to hit your head on it.

It says 430mm, not 450mm. I don't see the point with arguing with the manufacturer. There is nothing stopping you from going higher.

Ours was at 720mm above cooker (~1620 /5ft4in) and stuck out to ~450mm.

The number of times I 'it it wi' me 'ed was rediculous. We never used it other than the light and that was too far forwards according to Mrs Sunray 5ft5in as she cast a shadow over the pots when she bent forwards and also managed to colide with it.

We made some temporary changes to the kitchen layout not long after moving in, during which the scrap totter liked it far more than we ever did:LOL: and I created a temporary light arrangement in it's place out of scrap plinth across the front, upstand at the back and the twin fluorescent shade broken during the alterations. The whole thing was retained in the replacement kitchen 10 years later or ~20 years back as was the cream carcass above it.

The sign was a birthday present some time later... Oh and the 40W bulb has never been replaced.

450 seems far too low imho and unless the op is very short my crystal ball sees lots of head injury’s

to put that into perspective it's about 4ft6in high or shoulder height for a typical female or nipple height for a male.

I’ve always taken it as 700mm for Leccie, and 800mm for gas. The 450mm quoted is usually the height of the bottom of kitchen cabinets from the worktop.

Sounds fair to me

My experience of kitchen fitters: providing the height has not been specified by another they will set them at a suitable height to match tiles: such as 3x6", 4x 4.25", 5x4" etc to reduce the cutting to a ninimum.
Typically they will set the base units then stand a frame of the correct height, stand the wall unit on and fix.
If the unit hangs on brackets it may be as simple as a ply or MDF board, rest the plate on and fix.

Not sure on electric, but mi’s can determine the height. Rtfm is what we’re taught :ROFLMAO:

They can determine the minimum height, as that's a heat damage issue.

They may specify a maximum height, but that will be related in some way to the power of the fan - the more feeble theirs is the lower the maximum height will be, as above that their feeble fan will not manage to extract enough fumes. Next time you see into a restaurant kitchen, look at the height of their extractor hoods. Not saying fit one like that, but it illustrates the principle - big (and probably noisy) fan means you can have a bigger gap.

750 above a worktop is below eye level for anyone over 6', and in head-banging range of an awful lot. I would never want a hood lower than my height.
