Ello,

Looking to run some lights off an existing outdoor power socket. Rather than adding a full size outdoor switched connection unit and adding extra cable/glands etc is there anything that can be used inside the existing enclosure to run the 1.5mm cable off?

I've seen these FCUs which looks like terminal blocks with a fuse slot but seems odd they aren't sold in any of the major DIY stores.

They are the kind of things you have inside light fittings, don't think you'd have room for one inside a socket..

Why not just add an FCU?

As in a full size outside FCU (individual enclosure)? I can I was just trying to reduce the number of wiring points.

Spur off a spur isn’t a great idea, especially if you are reducing the csa of the cable

So best just stick to wiring the plug to a standalone FCU, then onto the lights I guess?

Just for clarity with the spur off a spur thing, the outdoor socket is part of the garage ring main.

@LappyGB in the outdoor socket, how many cables come to it from the house circuit?
If it’s only one cable, is there a 13amp FCU inside the house protecting the socket?

The garage sockets were fitted before I moved in and off a 32amp breaker in the consumer unit, on closer inspection the outdoor socket is on a spur off an inside socket (inside sockets all got 2x T+E). On that note I won't be running anything else off it unless it gets protected.

I can just run the outdoor lights off the existing lights circuit (original plan) rather than trying to get fancy.

What you have shown looks ideal, and will fit in a regular, outside socket.
