Massive costs in UK police security, long lines of bullet-proof cars, as far as the eye can see, then incredibly long lines of golf buggies, on the golf course, once there.

Not sure how much the cost is to the uk - the built proof cars are shipped in from the US the lines of golf buggies are secret severs agents. Maybe we just have a single bobby standing at the gate ?

Whenever people talk about the cost of -say this kind of police operation - we still have to pay the coppers every day so where is the actual "cost" - is it in overtime -or a few more ltrs of fuel in the vans.

Just pointing out it's more than one bobby, hundreds guarding the airport as well, presumably the empty plane.

Wonder how many are there to protect Trump directly and how many are there to police the demonstrations - against Trump.

Trump as president is obscene, but he is what he is and GB plc has to work with him or we could all unfortunately suffer the consequences.

Not much in the way of demonstrations locally, it's well locked down.

"Those policing the four-day, £18m trip included 738 West Midlands officers, 235 from Greater Manchester and 180 from Avon and Somerset".
That's one heck of a lot of plod for one old geezer.

They pull them away from other duties, and pay them overtime, drastically reducing the public's access to policing. They are busing them in, from all over the UK, and it's costing millions. Compare that, with when Starmer, visits Washington.

News report I heard said 5000 police providing security. Now we know why they have no time to investigate a burglary or bike theft.

But that’s my point - they have to pay them anyway so when people talk about the cost they add up all the wages that they have to pay anyway.
But yeah if its a personal visit then the US tax payer should reimburse the UK tax payer for the extra cost -- but then take away the extra cost of policing the lefty nutters in our own country who feel it is there duty to protest about an orange bloke playing a round of golf. But then if starmer is going up there to kiss his feet then that becomes a UK security responsibility.

You seem to be missing the point, that they are dragged away from/will be absent/missing from their normal policing duties throughout this. Policing, at the best of times, is very limited, this makes things much worse.
