Hi all,
Looking for some guidance with a stainless steel niche I've recently bought.

Have some concerns about this kit, it is branded (Thermopanel) and bought from a reputable company (wetroom store)

What I noticed is the middle shelf, the shelf drain is near the 12v cable entry, water is going to drain past/near these cables, looks a bit dodgy, or am I over worrying about it?

There is no mention of the IP rating of the LEDs themselves. Niche is going to be installed in Zone 1.

House is getting rewired soon with new CU will be protected with RCD, just getting everything ready for the electrician.

Cheers for any advice

Looks like something thrown together from parts with no consideration as to how the whole assembly is supposed to comply with any known standards.

Where do they intend the LED power supply to be mounted? That along with the wiring should be inside another enclosure.

Thanks for the help,

Yeah I thought it was a bit concerning with the cables rubbing against the metal, wasn't cheap either at £150,

So basically it's not fit for purpose,

Looks like the LED should be rated to a minimum of IP44 (zone 1) or better IP65,

Thanks

And what about the power supply for the LEDs? Where will that be?

So this is one of the 12V cables for the LEDs?

Also I don't think you're allowed unsheathed wires like this for 240V:

"Not fit for purpose"?

I think there's a fair chance it's "Not legal for sale in the UK".

Make sure they refund your return carriage costs, or send somebody to collect it.

Hi,
The LED driver is going to be outside the bathroom / zones somewhere, probably in a access panel with the bathroom downlight driver also.

Yes that's one of the 12v cables to LED.

Good point on the unsheathed 240v cables, its all crap / dangerous.

Shame as the niche itself is good quality.

I cannot find any niches with LEDs that specify the IP rating...

So looks like I will need to purchase IP65 leds to replace on this existing niche or return it or have a partial refund.

Cheers for the help

The bottom pic... Yes that's light shining through to show the gaps on the middle shelf

I guess either they purposely left gaps for drainage or it's poor welding.

It appears Thermopanel is a reputable company, like I said I think the niche itself is good quality and looks good to be fair, but thermopanel don't advertise LED niches on their website, so I'm guessing a third party has added the poor quality LEDs.

Hi, still unsure how to proceed with the niche,

If we get a better LED driver replacement (i.e. a decent one from TLC with T+E connections / 12v connections so the electrician can terminate properly)

With the above 'upgraded' and however, does the 12v LED (unknown IP rating) itself still pose a safety risk / concern being in Zone1.

The wiring of that very good quality MeanWell power supply is acceptable, and Flameport has already pointed out it will be/should be mounted in an enclosure, either something provided specifically for it or built into a fitting.

As for it being in an enclosure, etc:

Do we know what Thermopanel "intend"? morg - what do the installation instructions say?

We should note that the manufacturer of the power supply say it needs cooling by free air convection. It also says

I wonder what the end user is expected to do to get a compliant installation.

Perhaps:

Who would generate the paperwork making it compliant at completion.

So can all "qualified and certified electricians" carry out EMC testing and certify compliance with the appropriate directive(s), or only some?

Can any of the "qualified and certified electricians" who are members here confirm that they could do it if required?
