Caliper mounting thread repair advice

Although these hubs are a drop forging and are therefore malleable, I'd avoid bashing the thing in but would rather either press the new insert in or maybe use a bolt and spacer to do it that way.
Loctite before the insert is inserted!
John :)
That's what I thought.
Thanks

I'd be surprised if they were forged. Ford (in fact most volume manufacturers) usually cast them.

To be fair, they may be malleable cast iron......some are, most new stuff appears to be drop forged but in this case the properties are similar.

That shouldn't happen? If the properties of the forged item were similar to the cast one, surely nobody would pay the extra for the forged ones and associated tooling?

So, all went very well.
The kit saved the day and it only took a few minutes.
Took me longer to find a bolt and washers to press the insert than the rest of the job.
Thanks to everyone who contributed positively.

Forgive me Johnny but my logic sort of tells me that the insert flange should be passed through from the other (outside)
But I guess it doesn’t matter as the pins slide independently.
Did any instructions come with the kit?
Regards
John

No, that's what the video they pointed out was like.
Makes sense to have it like that so the guide pin pull it tighter.
If it was on the same side of the pin it would be easier to pull out.
Basically it acts as a nut on that side, but the pin thread is too short to have a nut there.

Just re-read your post.
Yes, the insert flange is on the outside, facing the roadside.
Maybe the pictures are not clear.
Look at the second picture with the caliper fitted, seems clearer.

Thanks! Just looked at the repair on a larger screen and I can see it well now.
That is a first class repair and I didn’t know such a thing existed.
Well impressed!

John

A lot easier than helicoiling. Pretty sure things like this were not about when I’ve made repairs in the past. A neat idea. (y)
