ableism is not on your list of virtues, so can we take it you don't care about disabled people - disgusting

Keep it up, Munroast, I'm sure that if you manage to think of enough prejudices which I didn't list because off the top of my head I didn't remember encountering them in GD, people will realise what an intelligent and insightful chap you are.

Or maybe not. Perhaps even the opposite.

AFAICT, pete01's second photo is basically a shot of Oxford Street decked up for HM QEII's platinum jubilee.

I can't find any examples of it with the comment on his.

Nor can I find reports of anybody objecting to the flags.

Surely he wasn't trying, desperately ineptly, to make a political point about non-existent censorship?

Was he?

I bet you are great fun to listen to in the pub
I bet he is a great deal more fun to listen to in the pub than the majority of other people I have listened too in the pub.
It’s great to listen to intelligent conversation and as much as I enjoy having a laugh I also enjoy some fascinating facts too.
I bet that David Attenborough and Steven Hawkin would be great fun to listen to in the pub too. Prof Hawkin did say that to avoid doubt he was the good looking one when he was joint opening those games a few years back, for all of his brilliant mind he had a sense of humour too. It would not surprise me if David had one too.

So I will take your comment as a non sarcastic one and hope it was made with such intention!

That Gay shop story reminds me of when I was young.
To say someone was gay meant that were happy, jolly etc . That’s all it meant.
What’s wrong with that?

If someone is offended by something that someone else is doing it is usually because they want to be offended and interferes in someone else’s business and it’s simply nothing to do with them.

Whatever someone’s practices are is usually their own business and nothing to do with anyone else (unless it affects them of course).
People’s sexual/religious/political etc etc preferences have no affect on me they are none of my business despite the fact that I am “anti- religion” .
Much as I think it is so wrong so daft in so many ways I don’t mind if someone is religious, that’s up to them.
What I do mind is when some of them start attempting to interfere with your peace like knocking on your door to preach to you, or stopping you in the street or suggesting to you that “ you should be a good Christian” implying that if you are not a Christian then you are not good. That I do not like.
Actually I could argue that I am religious, my religion has nothing to do with a god or a messiah but to do right to your fellow man, I would rather help someone than hurt someone, that is my religion.

If someone wants to put a flag up it, in itself, is usually no concern of mine, if someone is proud to be British/English/ Welsh/ Scots/ Russian/ European then so long as they are expressing support for some good things and not bad things (like slavery for example) then no problem.

If someone wants to be Irish or Chinese then I have no problem with that.

He's just being a dick.
You'll get used to it.

Which was why I originally began this thread, in this section, rather than GD - simply to have a bit of a technical discussion about how flags appear to automatically untangle themselves in the wind, when you might expect them to increasingly tangle themselves.

Yep, that's why they are/were much sought after as speakers.

One word: Thermodynamics.

Maybe the flag shaggers can fly enough of 'em to generate more wind power and save 'em a fortune on energy bills.

Mine is the cheap thin one and when wet it sticks to the pole - its a 45 degree one on the front of the house. And when wet it will even stick to itself. So maybe a thin cotton one would be less likely to stick when its wet. I will post a picture of my DIY rig later
