Backbox fitting

Armeg make a drill based backbox cutting system.

I have never used it. I normally chain drill.

I have one of these, and it is very very good. Instead of all the dust getting airbourne with a grinder, it drops out the bottom of the black bit. I've managed to line up the vacuum cleaner pipe under it, and made very little mess.

I found the square cutters not so good, and generally used the SDS chisel in the kit instead.

As far as killing vacuum cleaners, my Henry has taken loads of abuse with this sort of stuff and is taking it all in its stride. Just use genuine, Hepaflow bags.

I would go to extremes to NOT ever run a grinder in an occupied building ever again.

Stitch drill using tape round the bit to get a consistent length. Once you have done a few it gets a lot quicker

They don't work well in hard brick. Great for lightweight concrete blocks, but then so would be a multitool or even a padsaw.
I've been using mine for 15+ years and found no brick that could resist it.
I have a feeling that the bricks are not that robust. If you look at the image I attached, you'll see what I mean. I'm a bit worried that an SDS will crack or break the brick and leave me with a lot of making good to do. If I can cut the brick, I'll limit the potential damage. That's the theory at least.
You'd use the round bit first and then the square one on hammer only to take the corners out.
Clean cuts and if you make yourself a dust collector with half a bottle of milk, you won't get any dust either.

On the matter of dust, which has been a real pain so far and the wife says I've killed the hoover, has anyone used and these extra hands?

Read up, on how to make a centrifuge, to insert in vacuum pipe, to catch the dust before gets to the vac..

Keep the plastic "corks" from wine bottles - push it lengthways (maybe cut down in length, depending) over the bit - much easier to see when the depth is right than a bit of tape.

Also - these might scream "numpty DIYer", but they are bl..dy useful

OMG, now I need to start drinking wine... goodbye liver... it was nice knowing you.

As an side, I wonder if my accountant would let me put the bottles through as a work expense.

That is an impressive looking product I have to admit.
In the end I did use an angle grinder. I got my wife to hold the hoover beside the area as I chased out. It wasn't too bad for dust in the end. I used an SDS chisel bit and a bolster for the rest. That was the tricky bit cos SDS is too powerful so I did a lot by hand.
I'm reasonably happy with the results.
