This one is over 7 years old and had a 5 year warranty. It was repaired once within the warranty and I've no complaints about the warranty repair process although it was a bit long winded.

You have most likely got a fractured drum support arm, only noticeable with a heavy or uneven load accompanied by a heavy thumping.
The inner tub would have to come out and be split in half to extract the drum. If you look in the drum from the front you can see the shape of the spider through the stainless steel drum. Getting each of the the drum lifters in turn to the bottom and pushing down hard will probably show excess movement in one of the three arms.
That does seem to fit the symptoms! I have tried pushing the drum but didn't find any one different from the others.

I think I'm gonna have to split the drum and see if it's spider arm or bearings and then get the parts. Although I might have to wait until it misbehaves again as it seems to be working fine at the moment.

That’s very poor , all my washing machines have lasted 7-10 years without needing any repairs.

Our, now likely 15 year old Hoover, developed a fault, just beyond the 12 month warranty. It would have normally needed a new pcb, but I traced the fault to a 10p capacitor, and repaired it. It was a failure due to poor design, a capacitor, located between two large, hot heatsinks. When I repaired it, I spaced it away, and used a higher temperature replacement. Since when it ran fine, until around a couple of years ago, when it needed new drum bearings, which again I replaced.
