Here are the key events on day 1,300 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
Fighting has raged in Ukraine since Russia launched a full-scale invasion more than three years ago. Over the past year, Russian forces have slowly expanded the amount of territory they control, mostly in the east of Ukraine, and have continued their recent barrage of air strikes on Kyiv and other cities.

Despite US President Donald Trump's most recent push for an end to the war - hosting Russian President Vladimir Putin at a summit in Alaska and subsequently meeting Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky and other European leaders - there has been no diplomatic breakthrough.

Here is a recap of the situation on the ground in Ukraine.

It is important to remember that just because Russia is taking more land does not mean they are winning the war.

An estimated 218,000 people need evacuation from the Donetsk region, in eastern Ukraine, including 16,500 children. The area, which is crucial to the country's defence, is bearing the brunt of Russia's invasion, including daily attacks from drones and missiles. Some are unable to leave, others unwilling. Authorities will help evacuate those in front-line areas, but they can't rehouse them once they're out of danger.

They certainly aren't losing it, either.

Just think if Zalensky had went the peace route instead of the lining his own pockets route
predictable lies from MAGA gas boi

1) there was never a peace route

2) Zelensky hasnt lined his own pockets

Expect gasoline shortages in Russia, even more than they have now:

Attacks on refineries have stepped up recently, which is great news. If they target the refining columns, more than storage tanks, it reduces the capacity to refine, but also, takes longer to replace.

This could have the effect that Russia sells crude oil on the global market, reducing the price of crude, which will be bad news for Russia and good news for the rest of us. Of course, they can put out lower quality fuel for its citizens, and look into alternatives, but their are limits there.

Russia has to be taken on in an economic war. They have to be isolated, and the people of Russia banned from travelling. They have to see the consequences of their government's action in Ukraine.

The 1 sanction that would have been good if applied by Trump with all his threats. Hasn't been applied.

Pootin is playing him, and the people of Ukraine.

Trump is weakening Europe at the same time.

Indeed, we need to really step up the sanctions. But not at the expense of Europe of course. We (the rest of the world) need to ween ourselves off Russian fossil fuels.

While it may be true the West needs to find alternatives to Russian oil (plans for small modular reactors are in the pipeline), while India maintains their trade with Russia i don't think it'll be the kind of prohibitive sanctions called for from Kyiv. More of a concern is Indian troops participation in the Russian-led Zapad-2025 military drills, Russian state agency TASS said on Tuesday, highlighting Moscow’s [deepening] ties with New Delhi.

Trump's blunderbuss approach to foreign affairs is not helping Ukraine and leading to America's traditional allies to form new policies to deal with the Russian threat to Eastern Europe, which may turn out to be a good thing in the long term, but in the here-and-now is causing a unsettled atmosphere of mistrust.

It is a good indicator
It may mean they are winning the battle but not the war.

Unfortunately it does look like pootin is winning the war and the politics.

He has outclassed and outmanoeuvred Trump and weakened Europe, in a very short time

He will come knocking on NATO's door very soon.

He will come knocking on NATO door very soon.
And Trump via pootin has weakened us for that scenario.

Europe was always USAs 1st line of defence which is why they carried it (and yes as Europe we should have contributed more). But don't think America was supporting Europe just out of goodness to us. It was for their benefit 1st.
