Picture lights and ceiling track lights

I mean “basically yes, but there is a complication that I might ask about it in another thread, but please let’s not derail this thread!”.

Not derailing this thread, just trying to help you. If there’s no neutral at the switch it’s not going to be possible without further circuit modifications

All I can suggest is you fit plastic conduits in the plaster, and draw plans of where they are. You could later drill holes into the plaster and into the conduits, and then fish cables through.

I also have a problem in my kitchen as no good assess to the ceiling. So, looking at lighting track. It seems a good method to run the wires surface on the ceiling without it looking like an afterthought.

I did many years ago have some from Habitat. And it did work, but did not like how the cable connected to the track.

As to 12 volts hard to find smart 12 volt MR16 bulbs, but the GU10 MR16 bulbs are easy to find as smart bulbs, at just £5 each, so would go for low voltage (230 VAC) not extra low voltage (12 volt) as a result.

You would have to run cables in safe zones or make your own safe zones .You cant just run cables down or across walls

you could put a bunch of small spot lights around the ceiling in approximate positions, then direct them later. the type that you can spin and angle where you need them to be. they wouldn't need to be where the pictures are but could still illuminate them nicely from the side.
or just suck it up and decide now. indecisiveness is a terrible condition :)

Chasing the ceiling to numerous spots is unappealing; chasing to one or two track light connections would be more practical. But I am told that tracks lights are unfashionable. Do people agree/disagree with that?

personally i think it's your living room and if people don't like it they can either suck it up or leave. that's my approach :)
