Kitchen Lights

Hi

Im having a new kitchen and currently wiring the lights, its a u shaped kitchen with the bit by the dining room a breakfast bar, plan is attached.

Breakfast bar I was considering 2-3 pendants over the top, kitchen would be downlights but we're not having any wall cupboards so if its a bit dark we cant add under cupboard lights hence I'm struggling to work out that to do and have a design which is symmetrical and make sense.

Pendants over the breakfast bar would mean downlights not required over this part of the kitchen unless I switched them separately, dining area I was going to put downlights in the corners and a pendant light over the table

So your kitchen/diner is approx 6m x 4m. Personally I would be inclined to forget about the pendants altogether and just use downlighters symetrically placed across the ceiling. Draw a centre line both ways and configure the down lighters in rows approx metre apart both ways.You will need to locate joists and take. their position into account before cutting any holes. I'm sure different people will have different opinions and at the end of the day a lot is down to personal choice on what sort of lighting you prefer

100% its personal preference, I quite like the pendants over the breakfast bar but I could just switch these separately, the kitchen is around 6x4m and currently the ceiling is down is its fairly easy to position the lights etc

Look for low-profile (20mm or thinner) surface mount lights, then you'll not be restricted by joists.

When you say 'downlights' do you mean the old-fashioned GU10 type?

GU10 down lights are the best to install imho.

Easy to change bulbs, to replace them or change the colour output or wattage and don’t need to remove the unit from the ceiling unlike sealed units

How does surface lights look on a ceiling

I like the look of a clean ceiling with flush downlights

Is that not a bit unergonomic for storage
