Just wondered whether there are any regulations as to what types of lights are allowed in kitchens.

For example is there any reason not to have pendant lights? I have downlighters at the moment and the light is quite poor and patchy.

There are no special reqirements for lighting in kitchen, only that coverall regulation that says something like "any equipment must be suitable for its location".

IMO the best light for a kitchen is a standard flourescent fitting.

Many people think they are ugly, but cannot be beaten for light output and non shaddow producing ability. They are also pretty low maintanence, and energy efficient too!
