Suspension arm, brake discs and one brake pad were all changed on Monday for mot. Wondering if it's one of those. Comes on when I pull away slowly and possibly when wheels are turned on a bend. Goes away when going fast. Need my van yo go to London tomorrow. Couldn't get through to mechanic Friday. This serious or can it wait a week or so?

Clutch was clunky after getting changed and year ago.

don't use any bends, just go in a straight line and it should be ok

Was the noise there before you did any work

Not like this. There has been a clunking noise since the clutch was changed a year ago but not as loud and maybe different.

Obviously I'm gonna speak to mechanic but mostly want to know if safe on motorway going to London on Monday. Just been driving it around town

1 brake pad ?

Which 1, and why just 1 ?

I'm suspecting calipers wouldn't push back maybe

the CV joint may go on clicking for another year, on the other hand it may fail next time you go out

when it fails it will just feel like you are not in gear, the drive no longer gets to the wheel.

Is it dangerous, I don't know really, I suspect you just free wheel to a halt (obviously this would be serious in the outside lane on a motorway).
But my questions to the mechanics in here- could it cause the wheel to lock up, I have never heard of this happening, but can it ?

I'm not getting involved in the cv joint and if it's dangerous or not until I know more about what was done and why

If there is any doubt about the joint and the driveshaft it shouldn't be driven. No ifs or buts.

But is it a new noise or not ?

is a clicking CV joint an MOT failure ? if the boot is split it is, but do they even test the CV joint ?

I think a new noise. Seems to be when steering wheel's turned. I could pop to mechanic first thing tomorrow then possibly go on to London or hire a car. Chessington with my kid

Yes

You must inspect all:

  • prop shafts
  • drive shafts
  • prop shaft and drive shaft couplings and bearings
  • drive chains or belts
Class 3 vehicles do not need to be inspected for this.

I think a new noise
So it's been caused by what you've done.

You haven't said why you changed what you did, or why 1 brake pad

There's more to this that needs to be known.

I suspect it is currently not safe to drive if you have created a new noise
