This is why we will never get rid of hate.

Absolutely. It's all bull anyway, she's basically solving the "illegal" issue by making lots of them legal. Also opening the doors wide to family of anyone with a job or even "studying" at some mickey mouse college. Immigration will rise massively.

I suspect the Guardian are cynically attempting to win the support of the Reform voters. Which they think they'll do by saying the govt is racist. They're idiots, who think Reform voters are even more stupid than they are.

I haven't analysed it myself, but there's a widespread allegation that her open/closed policies per country may have a religious pattern. If so, and it can't be justified otherwise, then this needs calling out and debating.

I asked ChatGPT to analyse it Key proposals include:
  • Temporary Protection Status: The current system of granting five years of refugee status and an automatic path to settlement will be replaced with a temporary "core protection status". This status will be reviewed every 30 months, and protection can be revoked if the home country is deemed safe to return to.
  • Longer Path to Settlement: Refugees on core protection status will face a 20-year waiting period before they can apply for permanent residency (indefinite leave to remain), increased from the current five years.
  • "Earned" Settlement: A new "Protection Work and Study" visa route will be introduced for refugees who secure a job or commence studies at a certain level and pay a fee. This route offers a faster, but still lengthier, path to settlement (potentially 10 years, subject to consultation) based on economic contribution.
  • Reduced Support: The statutory legal duty to provide housing and financial support to all asylum seekers will be revoked and replaced with a discretionary power. Support will be denied to those who have the right to work but do not, those with sufficient assets, and those who break the law or ignore removal directions.
  • Human Rights Law Reform: The government plans to introduce legislation to restrict how UK courts interpret and apply Articles 3 and 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) in immigration cases. This includes narrowing the definition of "family" to immediate relatives only for Article 8 claims and making it harder for serious criminals to block deportation using Article 3.
  • Appeals Process Overhaul: The system will move to a single, consolidated appeal for asylum decisions, preventing multiple appeals on different grounds. A new appeals body, staffed by trained adjudicators, will be created to fast-track cases deemed "clearly without merit" or involving criminal convictions.
  • New Safe and Legal Routes: Capped safe and legal routes to the UK will be established, possibly based on a community sponsorship model similar to the Homes for Ukraine scheme. A new route for displaced students and an expanded Displaced Talent Mobility pilot for skilled refugees is also planned.
  • Visa Sanctions: Visa penalties will be imposed on countries that do not cooperate with the UK's efforts to return their citizens who are in the UK illegally. Angola, Namibia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo have been identified as initial targets.
  • Increased Enforcement: Plans also include the wider use of AI for age verification and a mandatory digital ID to prove right to work by the end of Parliament to tackle illegal working.

  • New Safe and Legal Routes: Capped safe and legal routes to the UK will be established, possibly based on a community sponsorship model (1) similar to the Homes for Ukraine scheme. A new route for displaced students and an expanded Displaced Talent Mobility pilot for skilled refugees is also planned. (2)
I can see problems with this:
1) its open to corruption and abuse
2) we already have a visa process for skilled people.

and of course the glaringly ovbious is how do we get those who are here and not wanted to leave?

Human Rights lawyers unhappy about reform to human right law.

Its good to see Labour ready to fix the mistakes of the last Labour government namely the Human Rights Act.

On the contrary, it sounds like a massive lobster and champagne ticket all round for the lawyers.

They can claim £10,000s of state funding per client picking apart all this stuff and probably defeating it.

It will just keep the plates spinning and the details obscured until the end of this government while they allow a few million more in. The reality of the immigration figures will only become apparent after they've been booted out.

Does she say no blacks, Irish, Gypsies, Horses or dogs?

1) The Guardian article does not mention Gypsies or horses.

2) The Guardian article references stories known for a long time of signs in windows of houses which took in lodgers in the 1950s.

3) But above all, the Guardian article is satire. Surely you knew that?

Ah right, they're lefties so it must be good racism?

It's sarcasm, not satire. They can't believe that a lefty government is daring to even pretend to control the border, which is just unbelievable to their tiny smug minds.

I suspect Guardian journalists all live in 95%+ indigenous British areas, as most middle-class lefties do. Not the places that have been systematically ruined beyond recognition over the last few years. Diversity is for thee, not for me.
