Can ppl recommend shower (inbuilt heater) brands to use and those to avoid in terms of reliability please.

I think I want one to run off 6mm

Thanks

We have an Aquatherm Streamline 9.5+ in the ensuite at home and we've also fitted them in a couple of the flats. Never had any issues, good flow and they are specified to work on a 6mm cable.

I don't doubt that you'll hear of some 'anecdotes but, over the years I've seen very many in-service electric showers, of all sorts of makes, and, quite frankly, have not been aware of 'reliability problems' with any of them.

Provided it is installed by Method C, 6mm² cable ought to be adequate for almost any shower (up to and including the common 10.5 kW)

I've stuck with Triton at home and in my rentals. But as John says most are much of a muchness.

I think Triton was the brand I was going to avoid (but I'm being unfair), due to the thermal cutout sensor tripping when it shouldn't. 75°C
and avoid Aqualease

Anyway, I want this shower for an E7 flat. I think that is the right thing to do ?

Is that just one anecdotal experience. I've seen plenty of Triton showers tnat have been in service for many years without any problems.

Are the occupants going to be taking showers in the middle of the night?

Even at E7 'cheap rate' prices, an electric shower is likely to cost more to run than one using gas/oil/whatever-heated water.

gas/oil isn't an option.

Either from the lower pressure tank + pump or leccy shower.
A short shower for 1 person should cost less than heating a whole tank every day. Only the top of the tank can then be heated for sink use.

Anyway maybe cost isn't such a big deal. More having guaranteed hot water when required and decent pressure is more important

Fair enough.

What is this 'lower pressure tank' and, if you don'gt have an electric shower, and gas/oil water heating is 'not an option', how wou,d thne water in that tank get heated?

Just 'the top of the tank' might well also be adequate for 'a short shower for 1 person'. Also, cylinders with modern insulation retain heat surprisingly well.

shower (inbuilt heater) brands
Two choices.

Cheapo affairs such as Triton for well under £100.
When it breaks or inevitably is stuffed with limescale, buy a new one.

Mira ATL which will be £400+
When that breaks or inevitably is stuffed with limescale, pay for repairs.
Parts and repairs likely to cost more than the entire cheapo shower, but there you go.

Same choices as buying a Beko washing machine for £250, or one of those Miele affairs for £1000+
Sunk cost determines whether repairs are attractive or not even though it shouldn't.

Currently got a hot water cylinder with immersion, gravity feed
Fair enough. Is there a reasonable 'head' above the cylinder?

As I wrote, just the heated water from the 'top' of a cylinder should be enough for a 'short shower for 1 person' and, dependent uon the answer to the above question, may be at a reasonable pressure.
