Tragic And Bizarre Electrocution

I agree you didn't say that but I can see how such an interpretation has been made.
I can see how someone who wanted to find something to argue about might imagine that I'd written something which I clearly didn't write.

Both in my working life and in this forum, I spend much of my time pointing out the 'downsides' of taking, or not taking, some course of action. However, when I do that, in no way does that mean that I am saying that the opposite (not taking or taking the action) is "OK" - one has to consider both the 'upsides' and 'downsides', and the upsides often outweigh the downsides.

Will add another story here:

Family issue urgent warning after window cleaner electrocuted - BBC News https://share.google/OZqjwqecQ5AyeCl2j
Or the direct BBC link https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cp8zpj7zz5do

While that is sad, it shows how "the Amercan way" is getting pervasive over here - it was only a matter of time.

So bloke waves a long pole around near power lines and gets zapped - and call isn't for better understanding of the dangers, but to somehow make the pole fully insulating to HV standards. I don't see how that's possible - they don't get maintained (especially cleanliness), are used in wet conditions, and have non-pure water flowing up them. The best I can see would be a small reduction in clearance before there's an arc across which then just tracks down the pole anyway.

And if they did make the poles "insulated", all that would happen is (some) users would just be less careful.

I must admit I had to smile when I read that. Pot and kettle! You often take the opposite view to what somebody has posted, seemingly on principle, and discuss it at great length. Usually it's something where there is no right answer and it's a matter of opinion.
On this thread, I made a comment, you were the one who challenged it. I'm not alone in my reading of your posts, but I can't be bothered to go through them again. We'll have to agree to differ, if there's anything to differ about.

Merry Christmas :giggle:

Predictable :-) However, as you go on to say, I really don't think that there is anything significant for us to 'agree to differ' about. We seem essentially agreed and the only small issue seems to have been that you perhaps have somewhat misinterpreted the 'intent' of what I wrote, specifically in this thread but, in view of what you say above, perhaps also much more generally.

It is not really about pots and kettles, or a desire to disagree/argue, but, rather, about 'how I am'. As I tried to explain, much of my professional life (which seems to have spilled over into my life in general) has involved the identification of potential 'downsides', flaws, uncertainties, 'questionable aspects' etc. of things which have been stated, written or proposed.

It is very often the case that I personally feel that those potential 'downsides' etc. are more than outweighed by the positive aspects of what has been stated/proposed/whatever but, nevertheless, I am expected to identify (and am paid for identifying) the potentially 'negative' issues that I believe warrant discussion and consideration - even though (as is very often the case) the ultimate decision may well be that those negative issues are outweighed by the positive ones. As above, it is probably fair to say that that approach has spilled over into all aspects of my life, not just my 'paid work' :-)
Merry Christmas :giggle:
Thanks, and the same to you and everyone else reading this - and my very best wishes to all of you for a happy, healthy and successful 2026!

Kind Regards, John

Thanks John, good to talk. I'm sure neither of us has any wish to fall out over it, or anything else. :giggle:
